South Tyrolean easiness: race cycling with the Alto Hotel Group

If you travel to South Tyrol, you will probably fall in love. The symbiosis between Alpine tradition and Mediterranean flair is something very special. How can you explore the region? How about on a racing bike! The Parkhotel Mondschein in Bolzano and the Hotel Schwarzschmied in Lana are ideal starting points for rides on narrow wheels: the tours on offer are as varied as South Tyrol itself…

On the pedals…

You’re just a click away: feel the wind, head towards the sun, take the bends and sprint down the straights. On a racing bike, you are fast enough to make metres, but slow enough to experience the landscape. And the scenery in South Tyrol, with its massive mountains and lush apple orchards, is particularly beautiful. Whether you focus more on sporting ambition, nature, culture or culinary destinations is up to you. The two Alto Hotel Group hotels Parkhotel Mondschein and Hotel Schwarzschmied offer racing bike packages for different requirements and preferences.

Starting point: Parkhotel Mondschein

The Parkhotel Mondschein is a “grandezza” of old times with a marvellous park and iconic bar in Bolzano. It was recently renovated and given a film-like 1960s Italian charm. The signature road bike tour, The Alto Ride, takes you to new heights. You set off from the hotel along picturesque paths past enchanting apple orchards and vineyard hills. Stop for a bite to eat at the 1477 Reichalter before returning to the Parkhotel. There you can then enjoy the Parkhotel’s newest jewel: the elegant pool provides refreshment and is the perfect backdrop to reflect on the day, away from the hustle and bustle of the South Tyrolean capital.

Starting point: Hotel Schwarzschmied

Anyone travelling to the Hotel Schwarzschmied is likely to leave feeling refreshed and balanced. The hotel with its minimalist design is a wellness oasis set in a postcard landscape. The church spire of Lana is close enough to touch, the vines and the picturesque mountain backdrop are just waiting to be conquered. How about a road bike tour along the South Tyrolean Wine Road to Lake Kaltern with a dip in the Klughammer lido? You could also book an entire road bike week, as is organised here four times a year – with six tours in seven days! Bikes are available for hire at both hotels, and the Hotel Schwarzschmied even has its own bike room for gear and repairs.
