A chalet – such a beautiful word, isn’t it? It evokes images of comfort, tranquillity, mountains and that special feeling of being exactly where you are meant to be. Agrad, as they say in Bavaria. Warm, melodic and full of local character, the word perfectly reflects the chalet village nestled within the idyllic moorlands of Aschau im Chiemgau.

Designed by Brüderl Architektur, the ensemble includes a main house with fifteen suites as well as twelve chalets that reinterpret alpine traditions with a contemporary spirit. Built from local spruce wood and stone, they radiate warmth and authenticity.

Yet anyone expecting a rustic appearance will be surprised. The two-storey chalets with open galleries impress with generous ceiling heights, timeless design, refined materials and a remarkable sense of openness and space.

A private retreat with sauna, hot tub & garden

At the same time, the chalets offer exactly the comfort one hopes for in a true retreat. A private garden creates space for quiet moments – complete with a Weber grill, spacious sauna and a hot tub that can be enjoyed warm or refreshingly cool depending on the mood.

Would you even want to leave the chalet? There is hardly any need.

At dawn, a lovingly prepared breakfast basket is delivered to the door, filled with homemade juice, still-warm sourdough bread and cheese from the neighbouring village. In the evening, guests can enjoy fondue with melted cheese or hearty beef broth. Those who prefer something else may choose a traditional Bavarian snack platter or à-la-carte dishes such as goulash, gnocchi or pasta.

And for those who enjoy cooking over the fire themselves, the barbecue packages turn grilling into an effortless celebration.

Slow living between moorlands, pool and books

How else might one spend the day? Reading, perhaps. The custom-made bookshelves are filled with children’s books, novels, crime stories, hiking guides and coffee table books – and maybe even that one book you have secretly always wanted to read.

Personal playlists flow through Marshall speakers, while the comfortable sofas gently remind guests that happiness sometimes simply means sitting still and letting time pass quietly.

Those who do step outside the chalet will find possibilities in every direction: a walk through the village, peaceful laps in the pool, yoga sessions, fitness training or a soothing massage. The surrounding moorlands also invite visitors to slow down and wander through silence and open landscapes.
