Aman Resorts – The journey to peace retreats in New York and Utah

October 2023 – The notion of peace sought by all is anchored deep within Aman, and is the meaning of the brand’s Sanskrit-derived name: Peace.
The Journey to Peace retreat takes place in the second half of the year in the U.S. at urban Aman New York and remote Amangiri in Utah, supporting guests on their own journey to peace. The spiritual retreat is dedicated to teaching people to rediscover serenity. It is intuitively and lovingly led by long-time Aman staff member and renowned Buddhist monk and mindfulness trainer, Master Geshe YongDong (Geshe La), geleitet.

It is said that achieving inner peace enables one to better deal with fears and worries, to slow down and focus the mind, and to achieve patience and tolerance. Geshe La accompanies guests on this journey. First at Aman New York (Oct. 27-30),where he creates a haven of calm in the heart of Manhattan. Followed by Amangiri (Nov. 3-6), where guests can find peace away from the daily grind, surrounded by the beautiful desert landscape of the North American canyons. During each experience, Geshe YongDong will share the ancient teachings of the Tibetan Bon tradition so participants can find the serenity of mind and spirit they seek.

Aman New York, Living Mindfully retreat Oct 27-30

The first retreat at Aman New YorkLiving Mindfully, is all about finding the peace you seek in everyday life and includes customized training sessions on living in the present, as well as workshops on healing anger and mantra meditation classes. As part of the Journey to Peace retreat at Aman New York, daily breakfast at Arva Restaurant is included, as well as a final lunch with Geshe La and a 90-minute Aman Signature Spa treatment.

Amangiri, Awaken the mind retreat, Nov 3-6

The second retreat in Amangiri, Utah, Awaken the Mind,immerses participants in the untamed wilderness of Canyon Point and focuses on discovering the true nature of the mind. A program of calming group classes and mindfulness workshops, as well as guided meditation, chanting and breathwork, awaits guests. The program aims to let go of what is no longer needed and appreciate the here and now more. The three-night retreat includes full board, including a healthy minibar and non-alcoholic beverages, a 90-minute group yoga class, a singing bowl and meditation session or a 90-minute spa treatment, and airport transfers.

Geshe La

Geshe La was born in Tibet in 1969 and entered Nangzhig Bonpo Monastery as a monk at the age of only 13. A gifted scholar, he received the Rajampa Geshe degree (Doctorate of Divinity) – the highest possible monastic degree – in 1992. He also studied and practiced under many masters, including His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, as well as His Holiness Menri Trizin. Today, Geshe La teaches philosophy and YungDrung Bon Buddhism and is one of only a handful of masters of this tradition worldwide. For over twenty years Geshe La has taught in many spiritual centers and universities around the world and is the founder and spiritual director of Sherab Chamma Ling and Bon da Ling, spiritual centers in British Columbia and Costa Rica. He is vice president of the International Organization of Tibetan Non-Denominational Buddhism and has published several books, including Calm Breath, Calm Mind.
