INSPIRATION FROM AROUND THE WORLD FOR AN AESTHETIC AND MEANINGFUL LIFESTYLE

AKAN Collection: A New Chapter of Moroccan Boutique Hospitality – with El Fenn as its Radiant Centrepiece

Where Every Place Tells a Story

Where architecture holds memory and hospitality becomes a cultural gesture – that is where AKAN begins.

The AKAN Collection represents a refined vision of intimate luxury hospitality in Morocco. Rooted in Amazigh culture, the name “AKAN” symbolises body and structure — a metaphor for both Morocco’s architectural foundations and its social fabric.

Founded by the Benabbés-Taarji family, whose roots in Marrakech span generations, the collection bridges heritage and contemporary excellence. Together with Chief Operating Officer Eros Abrile and a team of hospitality and branding experts, AKAN cultivates a portfolio defined by authenticity, emotion, and operational precision.

Youssef Benabbés-Taarji says:

„AKAN expresses a timeless Morocco — a project rooted in the future, and a tribute to past generations.“

The First Houses

AKAN currently brings together three iconic Marrakech addresses:

  • La Villa des Orangers – a Relais & Châteaux retreat near the Medina, defined by quiet nobility and timeless elegance.
  • Les Deux Tours – a garden paradise in the Palmeraie, where Andalusian-Moorish architecture meets lush botanical abundance.
  • And as the newest addition: El Fenn – a vibrant total work of art in the heart of the Medina.

El Fenn – A House of Art, Colour and Living Heritage

With its integration into the AKAN Collection, El Fenn becomes the artistic heartbeat of the portfolio.

Hidden within 13 interconnected riads in the heart of the Medina, the property comprises 41 individually designed rooms and suites. Sunlit courtyards, colonnaded galleries, three pools, a rooftop terrace overlooking the Koutoubia and the Atlas Mountains — El Fenn is less a hotel and more a living cultural canvas.

Its rooftop restaurant & cocktail bar, Colonnade Café, spa, and boutique create a vibrant yet intimate ecosystem.

Most notably, El Fenn houses one of Morocco’s most remarkable contemporary art collections, featuring works by William Kentridge, Sir Antony Gormley, and others — a dialogue between global contemporary art and Moroccan craftsmanship.

Here, “luxury with authenticity” is expressed through local materials, living know-how, and a deeply personal sense of hospitality.

Under the daily leadership of Hotel Manager Amine Belkhayat Zoukari, El Fenn remains a place of character – now supported by the strategic vision of the AKAN Collection.

A Living Narrative

AKAN is not about aligning properties — it is about weaving a story. A story of Morocco that is diverse, emotional, and deeply rooted in culture.

COO Eros Abrile:

„It’s not about aligning properties, but about weaving a story — the story of a living, diverse, emotionally resonant Morocco.“

With El Fenn as its luminous centrepiece, AKAN positions itself as a new benchmark for culturally conscious luxury hospitality in Morocco.
