INSPIRATION FROM AROUND THE WORLD FOR AN AESTHETIC AND MEANINGFUL LIFESTYLE

Louis Vuitton: The Body Shapes the Clothes

For Spring/Summer 2027, Nicolas Ghesquière puts movement at the centre of his thinking. Titled “Ergonomie”, the Louis Vuitton collection finds lightness through precise construction.

A garment changes with every step. Fabric shifts, one contour dissolves, another emerges. This is where Nicolas Ghesquière begins with Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2027 womenswear collection: with a moving body that continually gives its clothes a new shape.

The title is “Ergonomie”. It is a word we might first associate with a chair, a tool or the design of a workspace. Applied to fashion, it raises an intriguing question: how can clothing be conceived through the body and its movements?

Cutting for Movement

Ghesquière takes anatomy as his starting point. The garments are intended to follow the body’s changing contours, shifting and adapting alongside it. Structure remains essential, while its rigidity is dissolved.

What appears effortless is complex in construction. Different tensions within the materials create an arrangement that responds to the body. Fabrics and leathers lie against the wearer; the idea of a second skin describes a sensation and a function.

This is the appeal of the approach: the technical work should register as lightness when the clothes are worn. Precise construction makes freedom of movement possible.

The Work Behind the Lightness

Layered chiffon constructions, carré silks and scarf fabrics in silk and cashmere appear across different garments. Materials associated with scarves and fluid accessories become the starting point for an entire wardrobe.

Traditional tailoring is also examined through its weight. Internal layers are removed, structures reduced and garments reengineered. Knitwear traces the body. Footwear brings a grounded accent to these seemingly weightless forms.

Ghesquière connects this pursuit of lightness with Louis Vuitton’s history of travel. Form, function and mobility are part of the house’s heritage. For Spring/Summer 2027, that thinking is brought directly to the body: clothing should make moving through the world easier.

A City Stands Still

The scenography gives the principle a visible form. A static cityscape provides the background for individual figures in motion. Their lightness evokes a feather or a balloon; the unmoving surroundings make each physical change more apparent.

The collection draws attention to something fashion photography often pauses for an instant: the life within the clothes. A silhouette can be captured in an image. Here, it unfolds with the next step.
