Belgian studio Monad Origin transforms frequencies into furniture, sculpture and spatial experiences. During Berlin Art Week, Nick Peeters and Anujin Byambaa present WITNESS – an exploration of how the invisible can become tangible.
Sound is fleeting. It appears, travels through space and disappears. For Monad Origin, this is precisely where design begins.
The Belgian studio founded by Nick Peeters and Anujin Byambaa translates raw sound frequencies into physical forms. Tables, chairs, vessels and sculptures do not begin with conventional sketches or mood boards, but with the hidden geometry of vibration.
Function Follows Frequency
At Monad Origin Design starts not with function but with frequency. Sound is translated into spatial parameters such as proportion, tension, volume and void. Only then does it become clear whether a form will evolve into a table, a chair, a vessel or remain purely sculptural.
The resulting objects feel less designed than discovered. Even their names document the process: Study for a Lounge Chair (B) [14Hz | 15Hz | 14Hz] records the exact frequencies that generated its form.
The Side Table [30Hz 0.4y – 26Hz 0.8y] is a striking example. Made from aluminium, it is described by the studio as a captured moment of resonance – almost a fossil of a frequency.
From Brussels to Berlin
In 2026, Monad Origin has already presented work at COLLECTIBLE Brussels, FORMA during Madrid Design Festival and SOLIDIFIED during Milan Design Week.
Now, during Berlin Art Week, WITNESS takes the concept one step further.
From September 9 to 13, Monad Origin takes over the new DISTILL art space in Berlin-Neukölln. The exhibition expands beyond collectible objects to include sculpture, light, vibration and live image-making. Sound becomes not only material, but movement and space.
New works include the Wing Lounge Chair, generated from the 16.4–17.3 Hz interval, alongside the hand-finished aluminium series Talisman and Vessels.
The Most Personal Frequency
Perhaps the most intimate aspect of Monad Origin is its bespoke dimension. A unique artefact can be generated from a personally meaningful sound – a voice, a memory or a particular moment.
The sound itself becomes the source material, translated into a form that cannot be reproduced.
That may be the real fascination of Monad Origin. Beneath the technology, frequency analysis and material experimentation lies a deeply human question:
How do we give permanence to something that was meant to disappear?
