INSPIRATION FROM AROUND THE WORLD FOR AN AESTHETIC AND MEANINGFUL LIFESTYLE

Hotel Sanders Copenhagen – A Stage for Timeless Elegance

A boutique hotel in the heart of Copenhagen where theatre, design and Danish hospitality merge into an atmosphere that is both refined and relaxed.

Hidden on a quiet street near the Royal Danish Theatre, Hotel Sanders unfolds its own interpretation of luxury. Here, nostalgic charm, British-inspired elegance and Scandinavian calm blend into a place that feels less like a traditional hotel and more like a sophisticated private residence.

A Vision Born from the World of Theatre

The hotel was founded by former ballet dancer Alexander Kølpin, who spent years performing with the Royal Danish Ballet before turning to hospitality. With Sanders, opened in 2017, he realized his vision of a property that blends the ambiance of a private club with Copenhagen’s cultural heritage.

The building itself dates back to 1869, when it was originally constructed as three townhouses. It later housed the historic Hotel Opera before being completely renovated and transformed into the boutique hotel that stands today.

Kølpin often describes the hotel as a stage where guests take the leading role, while architecture and interiors form the elegant backdrop.

Design Between Nostalgia and Cosmopolitan Flair

The interiors were created by London-based design studio Lind + Almond, who collaborated closely with Kølpin. Their concept blends Danish mid-century aesthetics with British colonial influences and a subtle touch of Parisian elegance.

Warm tones, bespoke furniture, vintage wooden pieces and woven carpets define the rooms. Candlelight, fireplaces and soft lighting evoke the Danish sense of hygge—a feeling of warmth, intimacy and understated sophistication.

With just over fifty rooms and suites, the hotel maintains an intimate scale. Each space feels individually curated, resembling a stylish Copenhagen apartment.

Culinary and Social Spaces

Sanders is not only a retreat for travelers but also a lively social hub.

At Sanders Kitchen seasonal dishes and fresh ingredients define the menu, while the atmospheric TATA Cocktail Bar has become one of Copenhagen’s most stylish places for an evening drink.

Another highlight is the lush rooftop conservatory, offering a tranquil space above the city—perfect for breakfast or relaxed evenings.

In the Cultural Heart of Copenhagen

The location is one of the hotel’s greatest assets. Just steps away are the Nyhavn canal, Amalienborg Palace, the Royal Theatre and numerous galleries, restaurants and design boutiques.

From here, guests can easily explore Copenhagen’s vibrant cultural and creative scene.

Effortless Nordic Luxury

Hotel Sanders represents a type of luxury that is subtle rather than showy. Instead of grand gestures, the property focuses on atmosphere, personality and a sense of intimate comfort.

This balance of design, culture and hospitality makes Sanders one of the most stylish boutique hotels in the Nordic capital.
