INSPIRATION FROM AROUND THE WORLD FOR AN AESTHETIC AND MEANINGFUL LIFESTYLE

Maison Le Chevreuil: A New Home for the Good Life in Burgundy

Ten rooms, vineyards on the doorstep, a restaurant centred around open-fire cooking and a deep appreciation for craftsmanship: Maison Le Chevreuil has arrived in Meursault. Rather than trying to reinvent Burgundy, this new boutique hotel captures exactly why we love the region.

There are places whose names already sound like a promise. Meursault is one of them. Wine lovers think of Chardonnay, some of Burgundy’s celebrated vineyards and cellars whose stories have been passed down through generations. Right in the middle of this small universe, Maison Le Chevreuil has opened its doors – directly on the village square, opposite the historic town hall and church.

Following a two-year restoration, the property has become an intimate boutique hotel with just ten rooms. Small enough to remain personal, yet ambitious enough to be more than simply a beautiful base from which to explore one of France’s most fascinating wine regions.

A House That Belongs to Its Surroundings

Maison Le Chevreuil sees itself as an open house for travellers and locals alike. It may sound like a simple idea, but it feels particularly relevant at a time when many hotels increasingly present themselves as self-contained worlds, detached from their surroundings.

Here, the opposite is true.

The interiors take their cues from Burgundy’s culture and craftsmanship. Bespoke furniture, warm shades inspired by wine and landscape, locally crafted elements and views across either the vineyards or the historic village square allow the hotel to feel deeply connected to its setting. The two-year restoration itself was carried out in collaboration with local artisans.

It is a form of luxury defined less by spectacle than by material, provenance and time.

From Vineyard to Table

Naturally, a hotel in Meursault would hardly be complete without giving pleasure a prominent place at the table. The hotel’s own restaurant, TERRE, focuses on seasonal produce from Burgundy and cooking over an open fire.

A wine bar and outdoor terraces add to the experience, allowing Burgundy itself to become part of the hotel’s programme. A heated swimming pool offers an appealingly relaxed counterpoint between wine tastings, dinner and days spent exploring the surrounding villages and vineyards.

Perhaps this is precisely where the charm of Maison Le Chevreuil lies: there is no need to be constantly doing something. Instead, the hotel invites its guests to surrender to the rhythm of the region – eat, drink, sleep, walk, observe. And then begin again.

Luxury Doesn’t Stop at the Bedside

It seems only natural that sleep should be considered part of the overall experience. Maison Le Chevreuil is the first hotel in France to equip every guest room with handcrafted sleep systems by Hästens. Eight rooms feature the Hästens 2000T, while the two suites are furnished with the Maranga model. Each is handcrafted in Köping, Sweden, using natural materials including horsehair, cotton, wool, flax and slow-grown Swedish pine.

The partnership feels surprisingly at home here. Burgundy and Hästens share at least one philosophy: quality cannot simply be accelerated. Craftsmanship requires experience, good materials have a provenance – and some things simply become better when given time.

In the rooms, La Chênaie amenities, generous living areas and carefully selected design details extend this idea of comfort beyond the bed itself.

Ten Rooms, One Remarkable Region

Maison Le Chevreuil may prove particularly appealing precisely because it does not attempt to squeeze as much “hotel” as possible into its footprint. Its ten rooms make it feel more like an address from which to experience Burgundy – and somewhere one genuinely wants to return to after a long lunch, a tasting or a drive through the vineyards.

A small house in a small village, surrounded by an enormous culture of pleasure.

And perhaps that is the most contemporary expression of luxury: not more, but better.
