INSPIRATION FROM AROUND THE WORLD FOR AN AESTHETIC AND MEANINGFUL LIFESTYLE

Lucas Zito – Lighting Design Between Technology, Material, and Lightness

3D-printed lighting made from reclaimed and bio-sourced plastics: Lucas Zito combines digital fabrication with a conscious and reduced design philosophy.

Lucas Zito is a designer focused on lighting objects. His practice sits at the intersection of material research, emerging technologies, and sustainable thinking. Using recycled and bio-based plastics, he creates lights that are both functional and expressive of a mindful approach to materials and production.

Design as a Precise Process

Building on his education at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Lucas Zito approaches design as a carefully controlled process. 3D printing plays a central role, allowing precise control over form, structure, and material use. The objective is clear: achieving maximum spatial impact with minimal material.

Designed and produced in Paris, his lights are made from reclaimed or bio-sourced plastics, with technology serving as a tool for clarity and responsible making rather than spectacle.

The BUOY Collection: Translating Buoyancy into Light

Lucas Zito gained international recognition with the BUOY Collection, launched in 2021 and now considered his signature body of work. The name refers to buoyancy—the force that counteracts gravity. This idea is translated into lighting objects that appear to float, balancing visual lightness with structural presence.

Modular in construction and assembled by hand, BUOY demonstrates how large-scale lighting can be realized with remarkably little material. The collection encapsulates Zito’s approach: technically precise, visually poetic, and consistently resource-aware.

Lucas Zito’s work exemplifies how contemporary design can merge responsibility with refined aesthetics. His lighting objects emphasize material awareness, durability, and a quiet technological elegance—qualities that resonate strongly with the ethos of mindful living.
