Where tradition meets contemporary design: Nymphenburg and MCM create a collectible porcelain piece
At the Porzellan-Manufaktur Nymphenburg , centuries of craftsmanship, history, and emotion come together. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of MCM, a unique porcelain cup is brought to life – merging heritage with modern aesthetics.
Founded in 1747, Porzellan-Manufaktur Nymphenburg remains one of Europe’s most prestigious porcelain workshops. Located on the grounds of Nymphenburg Palace in Munich, each piece is still entirely handcrafted – from the preparation of the raw porcelain mass to the final finishing touches.
In an era dominated by industrial production, Nymphenburg preserves a rare dedication to true craftsmanship. Even today, natural water streams from the estate help power parts of the workshop, reflecting a deep-rooted connection between nature, process, and tradition.
Marking its 50th anniversary, MCM collaborates with Nymphenburg to reinterpret its iconic diamond motif – inspired by the Bavarian flag. The result is a limited-edition porcelain cup that bridges past and present in a refined collector’s object.
Director Felipe Sanguinetti captures this meticulous process in the short documentary Formed from Heritage. Through a sensitive and immersive lens, the film reveals the dedication and precision of the artisans behind each piece.
More than a documentary, the film unfolds as a quiet meditation on craftsmanship, material, and time. It tells the story of an object designed not only to be used, but to be appreciated – a vessel carrying cultural depth, heritage, and identity.
