INSPIRATION FROM AROUND THE WORLD FOR AN AESTHETIC AND MEANINGFUL LIFESTYLE

Martin Mostböck – Architecture Shaped by Form

The Viennese architect and designer creates spaces and objects with the same sense of purpose: clear, precise, and always derived from the logic of material.

The Austrian architect and designer Martin Mostböck focuses on bringing design to the point – clear, consistent, and material-conscious. His creations – whether a house, an interior, or a piece of furniture – follow a philosophy that goes beyond mere styling: they are conceptually rigorous, thoughtfully executed, and in the best sense of the word, design with attitude.

Born in 1966 in Vienna, Martin Mostböck studied architecture at the Vienna University of Technology, graduating in 1994. After professional experiences, including work with Coop Himmelb(l)au, he founded his own studio in 2001.

Mostböck does not see architecture, interiors, and design objects as separate disciplines but as variations of the same mindset. His focus lies on materials, context, and use. He avoids superficial decoration and instead strives for essence, clarity, and function. His designs are thoughtful, reduced, yet never cold. His work demonstrates a playful engagement with scale, proportion, space, and object – always with an emphasis on craftsmanship, detail, and context.

Mezzasferas – A New Perspective on Lounge Design

The latest furniture series, Mezzasferas (2025), offers a new perspective: a lounge collection built around spherical forms, segments, and domes.

„We want to see round, plump, spherical shapes and bubbles back in contemporary design.“

Here, Mostböck defines furniture as place-creating objects with autonomy – not as mere additions to architecture, but as deliberate steps forward. The architect becomes a furniture designer who also explores visionary potential.

Mezzasferas is produced by Kohlmaier, Wien – a traditional Viennese manufacturer renowned for its craftsmanship, custom upholstery, and the dialogue between artisanal heritage and contemporary design. Together with Martin Mostböck, this collaboration merges precise design thinking with perfect execution.

Martin Mostböck approaches design holistically.
Architecture, interior, and furniture – for him, these are not separate disciplines but variations of the same attitude. With the Konstantin Chair, he demonstrates how object and function can merge with the utmost precision; with Mezzasferas, he allows furniture to emerge as autonomous design statements. His work is calm, consistent, and yet sensuous – a model of design with substance.
