MADE IN EDIT presents ORA by Sara Ricciardi: The design ritual that reinvents wellness // DESIGN

With the second edition of EDIT Napoli, MADE IN EDIT presents ORA, a collection of tools that suggest a new daily ritual, designed by Sara Ricciardi, a designer of Campania origins, and produced by Simone Piva, refined craftsman from Veneto and master of materials. The name of the collection derives from the Benedictine monition — ora et labora (pray and work) — still today a precious teaching aimed at caring for oneself through body and mind.

Sara Ricciardi and Simone Piva give life to a different idea of wellness, measured and aware, and build a new imaginary made up of careful gestures, which respect the truest essence of the materials and the energetic strength instilled by the shape and functional balance they emanate.

The ORA series is composed of six objects that form a sequence, determining precise gestures. The ritual starts from the fountain (Fontana) in rose quartz and copper, which activates the cycle of water in the circular shape of the ouroboros — the snake that eats its own tail, a symbol of perfection and constant transformation. We then move on to the use of the censer (Incensiere) in copper, for olfactory stimulation, and the two massagers (Massaggiatori) for opening the energy channels of the hands and feet, by rubbing them with rough slabs of rose quartz, the “stone of the heart”.

Time is marked by an “open” hourglass (Clessidra), as if we could touch its flow like sand passing through the fingers. The ritual ends with gentle muscle strengthening through a series of specific weights (Pesi Specifici), in which the diverse raw materials (zebrawood, Nero Marquina marble, pink marble, brass, and Vincenza Stone in yellow and grey) determine the value and therefore the intensity of the physical action.

2019
For the brand’s first collection, born as a result of the residency programme that took place in the summer of 2018, three internationally renowned designersFaberhama (Netherlands), Khaled El Mays (Lebanon) and Reinaldo Sanguino (USA) — worked, respectively, alongside great textile masters such as De Negri & Za.Ma. from San Leucio, a town in the Caserta area renowned for its silk processing; of leather goods, the artisans of the historic centre districts of Naples; and ceramics, such as the Ceramiche Fes laboratory in Minori, in the heart of the Amalfi coast.

On display with the three designers during the first edition of EDIT Napoli, was the work of Resli Tale in collaboration with PPPattern and Izzo, a store for serial creativity and woodworker.

For MADE IN EDIT, The Neapolitan artist has reinterpreted the iconic image of the clothes hanging in the alleys of the Spanish neighbourhoods of her city, whose illustration has been transformed into the playing surface of an irreverent
ping-pong table.

MADE IN EDIT’s research is constantly evolving: the creators are already working on the 2021 collection, which will be officially presented during the third edition of EDIT Napoli.
