For the third consecutive year, Louis Vuitton partners with Art Basel Paris unveiling the seventh Artycapucines collection in collaboration with Takashi Murakami – showcased within a spectacular installation at the Grand Palais.
With an eight-metre-tall octopus sculpture, vivid colours, and Takashi Murakami’s iconic motifs, Louis Vuitton steals the spotlight at Art Basel Paris 2025 . The new Artycapucines VII – Louis Vuitton × Takashi Murakami collection fuses haute-couture craftsmanship with Murakami’s whimsical Superflat aesthetic – a visual celebration of art, fashion, and fantasy.
On the Balcon d’Honneur of the Grand Palais, a radiant octopus rises – inspired by Chinese lanterns and covered in Murakami’s iconic Jellyfish Eyes pattern. This monumental sculpture forms the heart of the new Artycapucines collection by Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami, marking a vibrant renewal of a collaboration that began nearly two decades ago.
Around this centerpiece unfolds a kaleidoscopic world of eleven unique Capucines bags, featuring Murakami’s signature characters – Mr. DOB, Superflat Panda, and the smiling flowers. Each creation is a masterpiece: from the Capucines Mini Mushroom adorned with over 100 hand-embroidered mushrooms to the Capucines East West Dragon, inspired by Murakami’s painting Dragon in Clouds Indigo Blue (2010).
The installation plays with contrasts – childlike wonder and mythical depth, craftsmanship and digital innovation. It mirrors Murakami’s unique gift for transforming both fear and joy into pop-cultural icons – playful, colourful, and layered.
Since the 1990s, Takashi Murakami has been celebrated for blending traditional nihonga painting with anime, science fiction, and Western art. His partnership with Louis Vuitton, which began in 2003 with the legendary Colorful Monogram, continues to redefine the intersection of fashion and contemporary art.
