Boat Trip on Lake Chiemsee

The Agrad Chalets are almost by the sea — at least if you take Chiemsee’s nickname literally. Known as the “Bavarian Sea,” it is one of Germany’s largest lakes. Standing on its shores, you gaze out over seemingly endless water sparkling on the horizon, dramatically framed by the Alps.

For those who wish to venture further, an electric boat lets you glide silently across the mirrored surface. Or take a steamer to the islands of Fraueninsel and Herreninsel to visit the magnificent Herrenchiemsee Palace — Ludwig II of Bavaria’s tribute to Versailles and a glittering architectural masterpiece.

Kampenwand

If you thought time stood still on the lake, wait until you ride the cable car up the Kampenwand. The nostalgic Kampenwandseilbahn, dating back to the 1950s, still glides the landscape with unmistakable charm. Whether you float up by gondola or hike to the summit, you’re rewarded with sweeping views across the Chiemgau region. On clear days, the panorama stretches far into the Alpine foothills, with vistas of the Berchtesgaden Alps, the Steinernes Meer, the Loferer Steinberge and even the Hohe Tauern. Depending on your energy levels and appetite, extend the outing with a hike — or round it off at a traditional alpine hut, indulging in regional specialties.

Crocus Bloom on Heuberg

Between March and April, the alpine meadows of Heuberg transform into a sea of violet and white blossoms. The wild crocuses unfurl their delicate flowers like tiny secrets of nature — fleeting, precious, and full of poetry. No one can predict the exact moment they bloom. The spectacle depends on the weather and lasts only a few weeks. Those lucky enough to witness it experience a quiet springtime magic that enchants year after year.

Falconry & Hohenaschau Castle
