Where Japanese Aesthetics Meet European Elegance
Minimalist elegance, masterful craftsmanship, and the finest sake – right in the heart of Vienna, a place has opened that unites all of this in a truly unique way: the new SHIKI Boutique | Sakethek by Joji Hattori.
An Experience for All the Senses
With the opening of the SHIKI Boutique | Sakethek, celebrated conductor and restaurateur Joji Hattori brings his passion for Japanese culture to a new level. After the success of his fine dining restaurant SHIKI, he now introduces a concept previously unseen in Europe: a space where sake culture and Japanese design merge in perfect harmony.
What he has created is more than just a boutique – it’s a sensory experience, deeply rooted in tradition and presented with a modern, cosmopolitan flair.
Craftsmanship to Take Home
From the moment you step inside, the space exudes calm and elegance. Gentle lighting, curated furniture, and premium materials create an atmosphere of quiet sophistication. Each object tells its own story, carefully arranged in custom-made display furniture.
What can you discover?
- Tin works by Nousaku
- Porcelain by Fukagawa & Kihara
- Hand-forged knives by Tadafusa & Nenohi
- Lacquerware, textiles, folding fans & sound art
Many of these artisanal masterpieces are available in Europe for the very first time, making this boutique truly exceptional. A particular highlight: custom-made garments by Natascha von Abensperg and Traun, designed exclusively for SHIKI and blending Japanese aesthetics with European craftsmanship.
Explore the World of Sake Like a Connoisseur
At the heart of the boutique lies the Sakethek – a thoughtfully curated selection of premium Japanese sake, available not only for purchase but also for tasting on site.
The collection is curated by Yuri Iwata, a respected sake expert who has visited over 100 breweries across Japan. Her deep knowledge and close ties to master brewers ensure a rare and authentic selection.
Tasting sets and personal consultations from trained sake sommeliers turn each visit into an inspiring journey – even for those new to the world of sake.
A Place of Cultural Connection
The SHIKI Boutique | Sakethek is not just about taste and design – it’s about cultural exchange. It brings together tradition and modernity, Japan and Europe, craft and cuisine in a truly inspiring way.
“It has long been my dream to present the most beautiful examples of Japanese craftsmanship in Europe.”
– Joji Hattori
For those who appreciate beauty in the details, SHIKI is more than a boutique – it’s a destination. A place to linger, discover, taste – and take a little piece of Japan home with you.
