Moodboard: The Dance of the Sea

In Dakar, Jorge Perez Ortiz and Rodri Porcelli capture youth, community and friendship through the rhythms of the Atlantic ocean, with fashion by Wales Bonner

Meditating on the ocean and its endless rhythm, directors Jorge Perez Ortiz and Rodri Porcelli travel to Dakar in Senegal for short film The Dance of the Sea – capturing the Atlantic as, not just a vast body of water, but a dance that connects us. On the Senegalese coastline, the ocean becomes the conductor of a deep journey, where every wave tells a story of community, friendship, and the transmission of values between generations.

“In Dakar, the dance of the sea is not just a visual spectacle but a song to unity. Every wave that rises is an invitation to embrace community, and to understand that, like the ocean, we are part of something much greater. This journey reminds us that no matter how far we go, there will always be a dance that connects us, a rhythm that makes us more human.”

Celebrating the sun, the sea, and the people of Senegal through the local community and contemporary traditions, The Dance of the Sea – translated from the Wolof, Fetchou Guédj Gui – looks to a new generation connected by the ocean, finding beauty and wisdom in its waters. With fashion provided by Wales Bonner, the poetic short film engages with a young community growing up in dialogue with the Atlantic, with the ocean as a refuge where friendship flourishes, and bonds are strengthened, carrying us toward new experiences, and lasting memories.
