Celebrating female bodies through designer Sinéad O’Dwyer’s wearable sculptures

Directed by Rei Nadal, this fashion film captures Sinéad O’Dwyer’s wearable sculptures moulded from fibreglass, as they exaggerate and emulate the female form. Expressing the multi-functionality and strength of the female body, a collection of women celebrate their bodies through independent touch and movement.

‘Maenads’

In Greek mythology, maenads were the female followers of Dionysus, the god of pleasure: their name literally translates as ‘raving ones.’ Against a brightly lit studio backdrop, a collection of women celebrate their bodies through independent touch and movement in Rei Nadal’s fashion film ‘Maenads’. Women wear emerging designer Sinéad O’Dwyer’s wearable sculptures, moulded from fibreglass to emulate and exaggerate unique body shapes, honouring each distinct form. The short film is intercepted by monochromatic shots of the tactile creation process – oozing liquid is poured and plunged, whilst iron clamps hold setting pieces together, a parallel to the multi-functionality and strength of the female body.
